Vietnamese army pith helmet
Back during the dark days of the Vietnam war, these pith helmets were hot souvenirs for American GIs—particularly up north where the fighting was often with North Vietnamese army regulars. However, if you found one lying on a jungle path, you were smart to leave it alone—an incredible number were booby-trapped. In fact, I once read that about 17% of all the casualties in Vietnam were caused by booby-traps. My colleague, Ralph, was kind enough to drag this one back for me from a recent trip to Hanoi—with fingers and arms intact.
