Danish harbor master’s visor cap
When I picked this up at a flea market, I could see it wasn’t a navy cap, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what else it might be. My good friend and neighbor, Jørgen Rørly, who is a former Olympic yachtsman, immediately identified it as a harbor master’s cap. On closer examination, we discovered the cap was in fact named to “Havnekaptain Hedegaard Jensen.” As it turned out, Jørgen knew this fellow, who had been a ship’s captain for the East Asiatic Company during the 30’s and 40’s and in his later years ran the port of Skovshoved, just north of Copenhagen. Captain Jensen retired about 1960.
