Denmark   Danish State Railways ferry officer’s visor cap Denmark consists of over 500 islands, of which about 100 are inhabited. As such, ferries—often operated by the Danish State Railways (DSB)—have been a key part of the country’s infrastructure for many, many years. In 1998, a major tunnel/bridge opened, linking two of the main geographic areas, Seeland and Funen, which has sounded the death knell for ferries plying the Great Belt. Personally, I’ll miss them.
