| English “Bobby” helmet (Durham) Older helmet from the Durham Police Department, probably from the fifties. Well-used, which is nice, as opposed to all the souvenir helmets you now find in London for £65—a standard price these days. It used to be that English police accessories were the property of the department and had to be returned upon retirement, so older helmets don’t turn up very often. A bobby told me last year that it was actually illegal to sell these helmets until very recently—which is probably why this one was first offered for sale in Copenhagen. |
