Straw “boater”
My late friend Dudley, a British actor, gave this to me after the close of a show we did for the Sheraton Hotel in Copenhagen. The show was based on the life of Hans Christian Andersen and for the life of me, I cannot remember why we used this hat—Andersen was otherwise known for his trademark stovepipe hat. In France, this style is known as a "canotier" or "matelot" and in Germany, it's called a "Butterblume." At Oxford University in England, the popular name is "strat," short for "straw hat."
