South-siders tended to support the Sox, I lived in Highland Park so I made the regular pilgrimage to Wrigley Field on the near-north side instead. That was back in the soon-forgotten era of daytime baseball before the economic powers-that-be vandalized this classic old ballpark by installing lights. When Rawlings started to make official copies of baseball regalia, I got the rest of the uniform, too—to the shock of my wife and friends who were convinced I had finally gone off the deep end.
