Soviet Air Force general’s field cap
On first glance, the only difference between a general’s field cap and that of an ordinary officer is the fact that general’s have piping in their branch-of-service color. The blue indicates that this is for an Air Force general. However, the quality is much finer, including a sturdy fiber visor, two-piece soldered cap badge, and a much better sweatband and lining. Naturally, the side buttons are in the unique general-officer style rather than the ordinary stars. This is a lovely unissued piece dated 1990. Thanks to Saskia in Hamburg!

The star is actually made separately and then soldered to the cockade for better depth and detail.
