The badge (silver for officers) is for the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the oldest regiment in Western Canada and one of the most highly decorated in Canada. Their motto “Hosti Acie Nominati” translates “named by the enemy in battle.” Formed in Winnipeg in 1883, the regiment has participated in all major conflicts from 1885 to 1945.
