French Foreign Legion NCO's “kepi”
Not much to say about this one except that probably from the forties or fifties and has just about the fanciest red silk lining I’ve ever seen. The gold chinstrap indicates that this is for an sergeant/NCO (officers would have a quatrefoil and gold braid at the crown. As opposed to Other Ranks, which wear the bright white kepi, higher ranks wear hats with this color combination (the black is actually very, very dark blue) I bought it many years ago to attend a costume party with a “Casablanca” theme. A big "merci" to Cédric in Paris for providing information about the Foreign Legion ranks.
