Knights Templar plumed hat
Originally an order of Christian men, the Knights Templar (York Rite Masons) is now open to all, regardless of race, creed, or color. Their motto, “By their fruits shall ye know them” expresses the basic aims of liberty, equality and fraternity—present-day Knights are involved in charity work. This particular hat is a ceremonial item dating from the 1920s and comes from Waco, Texas—the order seems to have been extremely popular in the Lone Star State. It’s made of beaver and features black and white ostrich feathers. Higher ranking Knights also had embroidered decorations on the body of the hat. Thanks to Linda and Tye in—surprise, surprise—Texas! |
