Soviet River Fleet captain’s cap
Interesting cap, probably for a ship’s captain in the Soviet River Fleet. The River Fleet was comprised of passanger ships that plied the Volga and other major estuaries, and also provided ferry services, transported cargo, etc. This cap is very flat in its design and therefore quite different from the large, pompous caps used by the Soviet military and most other civilian organizations. The metal visor decorations are crudely attached to the plastic visor with metal prongs that are bent back on the underside of the visor. The result is you cut your fingers each time you put on or take off the cap! You’ll find a nice website about the River Fleet here.
