The tall, unpadded crown is typical of pre-WWII caps, although I donít think this is the original badge. The chinstrap is particularly interesting since it appears to be lacquered cardboard rather than genuine leather and it is somewhat wider than usual. By the way, the side buttons are held in place with bent pins rather than the screw-buttons seen on later U.S. military headgear.
