United States Army officer’s visor cap (Vietnam-era)
This one started out as an enlisted man’s cap, but when the army was done training another “shake ‘n bake brown-bar” to cope with an acute shortage of platoon leaders following the North Vietnamese “Easter Offensive” in 1972, the officer’s eagle and gold chinstrap were added to match the new 2nd lieutenant’s bars of its owner. Hat and owner both survived to tell the tale.
