Polish Army lieutenants’s parade “chapka”
The chapka has the oddest shape of any hat I have ever seen. Round at the bottom, square at the top, the hat is lower on the right-hand side to give it a slightly rakish appearance. A Polish street vendor in London sold this one to me and claimed it was a general’s cap, but more informed sources say that it is for a 2nd lieutenant of the honor guard (indicated by the metal visor rim and the two stars of rank). The jagged edges of the eagle indicate that this is a model 1970 eagle for regular officers, as opposed to the M-1957 smooth-winged eagle for reserve officers.
